Community Involvement

Wink Architecture supports the work of many fine organizations in New Orleans. Some we have worked with, others we think are vital to the people of this city. Please visit their websites and get involved or support them in any way you feel appropriate.

Friends of Lafitte Greenway

Wink was a founding member of the Friends of Lafitte Corridor (now “Greenway”) and has always supported this grassroots organization that constantly surprises us with its forward motion to create and maintain a literal slice of our city. Friends of Lafitte Greenway is the community-driven non-profit organization that works in partnership with the City and the community to ensure the Greenway develops into a safe, vibrant, and active park.

A Studio in the Woods

A Studio in the Woods, a program of Tulane University’s ByWater Institute, is one of the leading artistic and academic residency programs in the Gulf South region. Wink was an early advisory board member and helped develop their early physical master plan. Their sanctuary and the artists and thinkers who have passed through the environs there have never ceased to inspire him to create more and be a better part of nature.

The Green Project

Serving New Orleans since 1994, the Green Project's mission is to promote a culture of creative reuse by diverting usable materials from landfills and cultivating a respect for their value. Wink began as a volunteer at what was then the Mid-City Green Project in 1996. Through the generous support of a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, he began the Building Materials recycling program, seeking to put value back into the “waste” portion of construction waste. Through their Salvage Store, the Green Project diverts valuable materials from the landfill, offers low-cost construction materials to the community, recycles paint, and runs education and art programs.

Colloqate

Colloqate Design is a multidisciplinary Architecture + Design Justice practice focused on expanding community access to (and building power through) the design of social, civic, and cultural spaces. Wink Architecture supports the work of Colloqate and looks forward to learning more about their important work and following their progress as our country struggles to recognize and come to terms with both our past and our future.

The Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design

The Albert and Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design is the community design center of the Tulane School of Architecture. The Small Center brings access to design professionals to segments of the community that lack design resources, by “imagining and pursuing projects that strengthen neighborhoods and contribute to a city shaped by its residents.” Wink has always been inspired by their work and encourages others to experience that inspiration for themselves.

The Louisiana Himalaya Association

The Louisiana Himalaya Association (LHA) is a 501c3 non-profit social work organization dedicated to improving the lives of Tibetan refugees, and to making ancient Tibetan wisdom traditions available to the world. Wink has been a Board Member for over 20 years and has seen first-hand how much can be done to improve the lives of others with very little effort or stress. See the organization’s website for the good work it does.
